Iftar ...you ask?? ... well ..ive already made a deal with Uni brothers ... for one iftar
...however id like to have 4 iftars during Ramadan (one in each week)with each, if possible being held at uni, followed with a short inspiring lecture then Taraweeh prayer.
as for the dawah store ... maybe we should allocate ONE day in the week where by we can setup a dawah store ... atleast for the four weeks of ramadan
im pretty sure the shura will plan some more lectures after IAW ... again especially during ramadan.
IAW debriefing will definatly occur ... not sure about when ... im sure firdaus will decide on that.

I was thinking, why shouldn't we have iftar at least twice a week or more if we can, and it wouldn't cost us anything. We can do this by bringing in food and if everyone tries to bring in something, it will be great inshallah!!! (i had a few ppl who suggested the same thing)
So are we able to do this? Or would it cause abit of hassle :)

I reckon that might be a bit problematic, because Ramadan is usually a month that you would spend with your family, predominantly. And Im sure there will be other iftar invitations that people will attend.. at mosques, centres, and people's houses. So in my opinion, it would be more practical to just have one iftar a week...On top of that, most of us live far away from the city, so by the time we get home its gonna be somethin like 9:40-10. I dont intend to get kicked out of my house :p

Yeah in ramadhan diferent masjids also have scholars come from overseas so uni taraweh becomes a little less attractive

Yea i'd agree with you :D but i was talking about those who have uni till late (like for those who are stuck at uni until after iftar, lol). And whoever can make it, can make it, and who ever can't make it, it's all good :)
We don't want anyone to go into great trouble, it should be convenient for all :D

Salams everyone,
Adnan: Iftars once a week sound great but taraweeh may be a little unsuitable for sisters especially travelling on trains at night. If bros want to stay behind for taraweeh no problem.. but i like your idea of inspirational talks in Ramadan.
Maybe during the day?
I also like the idea of the IAW speakers coming back! Mashallah they were great :D

WE've stayed later than that in previous years.... with permission of course. because we can let ourselves out of OTC via the green button on the automatic door.
but that is a consideration. we'll see what can be done insha'Allah
Adnan Khabbaz
17-08-2009, 10:17 PM
well we can organise to access the OTC after hours ...thats not an issue
as for the time being too late for taraweeh ...well i never really expected the sisters to stay too longer after when i made that suggestion ... i mean if some sisters wanna stay they can ..but its primarly aimed at the brothers....
id like the inspiration talk to be done after we eat our selves... basically before we start the isha prayer ...
inshallah will also hav a list of lectures that should be conducted during ramadan

how about making the taraweeh prayers and iftar at a place not exactly at uni but somewhere central to everyone...that way all the sisters can make it:D have u also thought of maybe joining the msa's of all the uni's and having a joint iftar and taraweeh? maybe at like a public school thats available (plenty of them since thats where most taraweeh prayers are held)...?? something to think about:D

I think MSA australia will be holding one like that ... whereby all the MSA's are invited to an iftar.
as for having it central ...define Central???
i mean ...we kinda all live in different places
i can easily get a place in the canterbury bankstown district ..but ... is that central for everyone ... and i really think AT LEAST ONE gets done at UNi !

jus preppin up a calendar
Here's some key dates held by others:
- The indo society and the arab society have no set dates for their iftars - so we shall, inshallah, have one large joint iftar with each inshallah.
- UNSW: 24th August
- Malay Soc (- cohosted with sumsa): 27th August, Manning Courtyard
- UTS (- cohosted with sumsa): 1st (on utsms website) 4th (according 2 uts shura's tarek elarif) september
- MFIS: 5th Sept
- Affinitys Fastathon (possibly co-hosted with sumsa): 9th Sept
- UWS parra: 12th September
dunno what the saudi soc chaps hav planned yet - pretty much they're having their iftars daily at Zetland masjid
The indo soc gave us the idea of having an iftar with the homeless in sydney. If we are to do that, i'd like it to involve the malays soc, the indos soc, sumsa, the arab soc, the students for palestine soc, and the saudi soc.
--------
Here are some ideas for iftar plans to be decided on & dated today:
- joint iftars with other msa's
- joint iftars with other mainly-muslim society's on campus
- iftars where everyone brings something to the musalla
- iftars where bros go to one halal restaurant in the city with sweetshop nearby, and sisters go to another, then alternate the week afterward
- BIG ASS sumsa Iftar on campus
- BIG ASS sumsa iftar off campus, and probly co-held with other msa's
---------
~~~~~~~~ ramadan lectures and islamic activities ~~~~~~~~~~~
