The Palestinian Problem

Salaam Brothers and Sisters,

We should really do something in the new semester about the massacre going on in Gaza. I am currently on holiday in New York, and in the past week, I have seen to big protests occurring .

Just today, there was a protest near the UN and also where I am staying. It stretched from 42nd to 55th, probably more. We saw many Jews as well, and the number of Jews who are disillusioned with Israel's aggressive expansionist policy is growing. If we can get more of them on our side, then there is a real chance we can create some inroads.

Does anyone have any ideas on what we can do? I was thinking our own protests, as well as fundraisers etc. What do you guys think?

I agree with you there Abrar. Although the issue of Palestine has gotten the attention of the world, to us as Muslims it is fundamentally an Islamic issue. As Muslims we should be the loudest, so to speak, when it comes to speaking out against the atrocities, doing whatever is possible. And we must be on the forefront of our own initiatives.

In my humble opinion, one of the major things we can do is to organise lectures where we present the Islamic perspective and solution to the issue at hand and root of the problem, i.e. the illegal occupation of Israel.

Insha'Allah the events of the past week or so inspire many amongst us to move from complacency to sincere action.

Sure, both of those, as well as anything that will help to raise awareness on campus about how serious Muslims are when it comes to assuming their own political destiny. We have a voice, and we want it to reverberate across landscapes. If their is occupation, there will always be protestation.

I look forward to attending any such events.

I think Sumsa should be more involved in raising awareness about the issues in Palestine. The socialists are trying their best to educate people about it, and we aren't doing anything.
